Trainers socks - what's the right choice?

Which socks actually go best with trainers? Ankle socks? Sneakers socks, or the really, really short ‘no-show socks’? Patterned socks? White socks? Black socks? No socks at all?
As you can see, there's a lot to consider when choosing the perfect socks for your new pair of trainers. There are classic combinations you should know - and some BIG mistakes you should avoid. Socks trainers - Luckily, the three most important things to think about are the length of the socks, the colour of the socks and the rest of your outfit or ‘style’.
Socks trainers - The outfit
Trainers are the kings and queens of leisure, but they are also the perfect choice for sport. To wear the right socks with your trainers, the most important thing to consider is what you are wearing them for. For sports or for leisure?
Are you wearing sports shorts to play football or tennis, for example, or corduroy trousers, chinos or jeans for a casual leisure look with trainers? This will determine which socks are best suited to your trainers.
The sock length
Sock length is perhaps the easiest to determine, as there aren't really many sock lengths to worry about. And to make things even easier, we'll break down the lengths here and tell you how they should and shouldn't be worn.
No-show/invisible socks - best worn with low-top trainers for a look that... well... gives the impression that you're not wearing socks. This is a modern classic, teamed with slim jeans or rolled up chinos.
Ankle socks - best paired with high-top trainers for a similar look to the no-shows.
Striped socks/ trouser socks (crew) - if you want to wear the ‘American teen’ look, a sporty look or just regular trousers, striped socks are a good choice. Combine them with shorts and pull them up for the teen look. The same goes for the sports look.
Sock colour
When it comes to colour, it's difficult to get it right because there are different views, but the easiest thing to remember is: white is for sports, black is for the rest + sports. Only wear white socks if you're using your trainers for sport or pairing them with a sporty outfit. Trust us - that's the right thing to do.
Otherwise, match the colour of your socks with the colour of your trainers or legwear to either stand out or blend in. The choice is yours!

What about barefoot?
Can you wear trainers/sneakers without socks, i.e. barefoot? This question arises especially in high temperatures, on holiday or when doing sports.
Can / should you wear trainers barefoot?
Our opinion: Sneakers can be worn barefoot in your free time, i.e. for walking, strolling around town or at a barbecue party. However, I would recommend a good insole to reduce perspiration. For example, our towelling coconut insole. This absorbs excess sweat. The shoes also stay fresh and smell good.
However, I would not recommend wearing them barefoot for sports because of the excess perspiration all over the foot. The sweat on the ankle can destroy the material.
